What does the research on BPC-157 investigate?
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide whose sequence, GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, has an unusual composition: nine of its fifteen residues are glycine or proline, and it contains no cysteine, no methionine and no tryptophan. That matters far more than it sounds. The three residues absent from the chain are the ones responsible for most peptide instability - cysteine forms unwanted disulfides, methionine and tryptophan oxidise - so a sequence without them is comparatively robust and its purity trace is comparatively clean. The other consequence is polarity: a chain dominated by glycine and proline is very hydrophilic, retains poorly on a standard reversed-phase method, and is often more comfortably handled with an ion-pairing reagent or an alternative stationary phase. The published literature around this sequence sits in cytoprotection and angiogenesis research conducted in cell and tissue models. None of it establishes a benefit, effect or outcome in humans, and none of it describes a use, dose or route.
Is BPC-157 legal in the UK?
BPC-157 is not a licensed medicine in the United Kingdom and is not listed in any schedule of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Selling it as a research chemical is a lawful trade; what the law restricts is the purpose it is sold for, not the fact that it is sold.
Three pieces of legislation frame that distinction. The Human Medicines Regulations 2012 make it an offence to sell an unlicensed product for human use. The Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 prohibits supplying a psychoactive substance for human consumption, which is why a research-only basis is not a formality. The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 would apply only if the compound were scheduled, and it is not. The report carries the lot number printed on the vial, which is the part that matters. A certificate showing a result without a lot number cannot be tied to the vial in front of you, and a certificate for a different lot tells you nothing about yours. Matching the printed number on the label to the number on the report is a five second check and it is the whole point of publishing both.

Synthesis and supply
Peptide material is built by solid-phase synthesis, purified by preparative HPLC, then lyophilised. Why is BPC-157 read at 214nm rather than 280nm on a purity trace?
The sequence has no tryptophan, tyrosine or phenylalanine, so it has essentially no absorbance at 280nm. Purity is therefore recorded from peptide-bond absorbance near 214nm, and the wavelength is stated on the batch record.
What does the run of prolines mean in practice?
Positions three to five are all proline, which stiffens that segment and can produce cis/trans isomer peaks on a slow gradient — a known behaviour of the sequence, not a purity problem.
Which salt form is BPC-157 supplied as?

How should BPC-157 be stored?
In the form supplied, as a lyophilised powder, the material is stable kept cold, dry and dark. For powder, that means a freezer at around minus 20 degrees Celsius, desiccated, with the vial sealed and shielded from light, which is how it should stay until you are ready to work with it. Bringing a vial to room temperature before opening avoids condensation on the contents. Once in solution the material is less stable than the powder and should be kept cold and used within a short working window. Choosing a solvent and a storage regime for your own work is your call, not ours.
Do I need bacteriostatic water to prepare it?
A lyophilised powder needs a solvent added before it can be worked with. Bacteriostatic water, which is water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol, is the common choice because the preservative extends the working life of the solution once the vial has been opened, and we supply it in 3ml and 10ml vials. It is not the only option: where a method cannot tolerate benzyl alcohol, use the solvent the method specifies. The choice affects the sample, so it belongs to the researcher.

Why is BPC-157 less prone to degradation than many peptides?
Because of what its sequence does not contain. Cysteine, methionine and tryptophan are the residues that drive most peptide instability - cysteine by forming disulfide bridges between chains, methionine and tryptophan by oxidising - and BPC-157 has none of them. What remains is a chain dominated by glycine and proline, both of which are resistant to the processes that degrade peptides in storage. That is a statement about molecular stability, not about any property of the material in use.
Why does it elute early on a reversed-phase column?
Because it is very polar. Reversed-phase retention depends on how hydrophobic a molecule is, and a chain where most residues are glycine or proline has little hydrophobic character to hold it on the stationary phase. A short retention time is the expected result for this sequence. Where a method needs more retention, the usual approaches are ion pairing or a different column chemistry rather than a longer gradient.
What does the published research on this sequence examine?
Work in cell and tissue models on cytoprotection and on the formation of new blood vessels, alongside studies on how the peptide behaves in simple buffer systems.
