A batch number identifies a single, discrete production run of a compound. Everything produced in that run shares the same batch identifier, which lets the material be traced as a group. When a sample from the run is analysed, the resulting figures, HPLC purity and LC-MS identity, are recorded against that batch number.

What a lot number means

A lot number serves the same purpose: it identifies a defined quantity of material handled together. Find the same field on the certificate of analysis and confirm the identifier is identical, character for character. 3. Check the method records. Documentation should be tied to that specific run, not a generic template reused across lots.

Why traceability depends on the identifier
